Way Wiper:
The Way Wiper Kit addresses the problem of dropping chips onto the bed ways. It attaches to the carriage using two Neodymium magnets and it holds in place two felt pads that are in contact with the ways. As the carriage moves, the felt pads pick up and sweep away the swarf that lands on the ways, preventing the damaging effects seen over time. In addition, soaking the pads in oil (or your bed way lubricant of choice) lubricates the bed ways as the carriage travels, providing a clean and freshly lubricated surface with each movement. The only maintenance required is to brush off the pads every few uses. The replacement of the pads requires no tools (unlike some that are bolted to the carriage) and is done by simply pulling the wiper housing from the carriage and removing/replacing the pad with a fresh one.
The Way Wiper Kit for mini lathes should fit all 7x10, 7x12 and 7x14 lathes from Harbor Freight, Grizzly, Homier, etc. and will include the following items:
2 Wiper Housings – 1 left side, 1 right side (3D printed* in silver ABS plastic with Neodymium magnets installed).
6 Felt Pads (3 of each style, die cut).
*Note: The 3D printing technology used is FDM, which means the part is printed layer by layer. These layers are visible and should be expected. The part will be visibly different than a standard injection molded part or a cast part.
Apron Chip Shield:
The gears of the apron on mini lathes (7"x10", 7"x12" and 7"x14") are open to the machining process and quickly become coated with swarf. Chips clog the gears and bind the movement, causing jerky movements of the carriage.
The Apron Chip Shield from Phenom Engineering prevents chips from entering the gears of the carriage apron and helps to maintain the smooth movement of the gears. Installation is easy and the lathe can be back up and running in less than five minutes. Simply remove the carriage, clean the apron gears, install the shield and reinstall the carriage. The shield is laser cut from impact resistant acrylic and is held in place with two neodymium magnets that are pressed and bonded to the shield. No drilling or tapping required!
This chip shield should fit all 7x10, 7x12 and 7x14 lathes.
Spindle Speed Label:
The Spindle RPM Label from Phenom Engineering allows you to set your spindle to the speed you need. In low gear, the label is marked in 100RPM increments and in high, 250RPM increments. The label also shows the 'dead' zones of the speed controller (the areas where turning the knob does not change the spindle speed). The label has been independently shown to be accurate to +/-10 RPM at all speeds and is repeatable to within +/-2 RPM (these variations are due to the inconsistencies of the controller). The label is made from high quality vinyl and is repositionable, to make installation as easy as possible. The stickers are fade, moisture and UV resistant.
Installation of the label is done by simply removing the speed control knob, lining up the edges of the label and then pressing the label into place right on top of the original. Lastly, line up the knob with the 'OFF' line and tighten.
This label is die cut to fit the newer 7x10 and 7x12 lathe models. It will work for any 7x10 and 7x12 lathe, but may require trimming to fit your particular brand of lathe, depending on model and year. The label should also work on the 7x14 lathes with the higher output motors, but has not been independently verified, so this can not be guaranteed.
